So these few days I have been craving prawn noodles again. But there is one problem, finding a good or decent one in Sengkang, where I am living right now is pretty hard. Being lazy to travel to Kovan for Davis Prawn Court, I tried exploring around Sengkang hoping to find a gem and well really found it!
Not to be confused with another Chan's Delight, Chan's Delight Prawn Noodles is operated in a coffee shop under Kopitiam, which is just above Buangkok MRT station.
The friendly boss told me they opened in Dec 2022, which is a pretty new stall here.
Their menu is quite extensive and open. Although their mains are only pork rib and prawns, they have the deep-fried prawn version and kangkong only version.
The Ordered Dish
Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles dry version (6SGD)
I would have to say their plating is very nice. Serving is decent for a person. 2 prawns and pork ribs, pork lards, bean sprouts and kang kong are inside. The soup is in a separate bowl
Noodles and bee hoon are cooked al dente. Sauces mixed with bee hoon and noodles are not overpowering, a very balanced taste. The porklard was super crispy and fragrant!
Prawns were fresh and cooked well, giving a tender yet firm texture. Prawns are quite big compared to other stalls' regular versions of prawn noodles.
Pork ribs are cooked inconsistently though. 1 piece is tender, another one is hard and rubbery. Flavours can be better as it is quite bland.
The broth was an interesting one. It is full-savoury at first and ends with a sweet aftertaste. A very well-balanced taste and not suffocate your tastebuds. What's more, you can ask for a refill of the soup!
Thoughts
This is a pretty good prawn noodle, but not without any flaws. I like Chan's Delight Prawn Noodles approach of making their dishes have a balanced taste. Broth has the umaminess of the prawns but not overpowering.
Their pork lard is one of the crispiest and most aromatic I had. Pork ribs need to be more flavour and consistent in cooking.
With such a good prawn noodle in Sengkang, guess I won't need to make an effort to travel other places for the time being to satisfy my prawn noodle cravings!
