Gusta Sourdough Pizza Co: Great sourdough pizza in the neighbourhood!

restaurant signboard

Pizza has never been something that I would make my first meal choice. My impression of pizza was always the fast food, the pan-crust dough which is hard like a rock.

A few days ago, I came across a Yahoo article about a sourdough pizzeria located in the Serangoon neighbourhood. Out of curiosity, I make a trip down for it.

Gusta Sourdough Pizza Co was founded by Sean Lai, who is a self-taught chef and previously founded Cottontail Creamery too.

Interior of the pizzeria

The pizzeria is just a 5 minutes walk from Serangoon Nex and Serangoon MRT station so it was not hard to find for it.

Although it is under an HDB block, it gives me the vibes of a professional restaurant here.

The Ordered Dish

Gusta Sourdough Pizza Calabrese Salami (22.5++SGD)y version due to running errands. Gusta Sourdough Pizza Co served Neo-Napolitano-style Pizza.

Calabrese salami is actually a cured sausage made from pork originating from the Calabria region of Italy. Parsley is also in the pizza.

Portion wise is enough for 2 people to share. The staff cuts the portions really well.

The pizza was cold when I bring it home, however, the taste stays with it. The cheese and tomato sauce proportions strike it well on the base of the pizza, making it not too jelat (feeling of fullness). The Calabrese salami is a little bit too salty for me but I like the smokiness of it.

This is where Gusta Sourdough Pizza Co really shines. The sourdough on the pizza is so fluffy it bounces back when I press on it. Soft and chewy inside and the outer layer of the sourdough is still crispy when bitten even it is cold, making the pizza incredibly satisfying.

Thoughts

takeaway pizza box

This is my first time eating Neo-Neapolitan-style pizza and I would say is a very good experience.

Gusta Sourdough Pizza Co treats its pizza with pride and dedication. Fresh and premium ingredients are used while keeping them at a reasonable price for a pizza in Singapore. It's such a rare gem to have such a high standard of food in the neighbourhood.

They do have vegan options on their pizza too. Hurray for vegan eaters! Do check out their menu for other pizzas from their website below.

For the rating wise I will base it on the takeaway version. I will definitely be going back and doing another review of other pizzas on the eat-in version.

Do check out this wanton noodles as it is just nearby their stall!
