Rejoice ramen lovers in Singapore! There is a new ramen shop in town and its name is Hanamaruken Ramen 花丸軒.
Hanamaruken Ramen is a very popular ramen shop located in Osaka, Dotonbori. An article from Japan Web Magazine claims them to be one of the best ramen in Osaka.
What makes them so popular is their slow-cooked pork rib and shoyu tonkostu-based broth which simmered over 8 hours.
Founded in 1982 by Takaku Arakawa, a man whose family runs the butchery business, Arakawa Pork Company.
Hanamaruken Ramen do have an outlet in Manila, Philippines too.
Hanamaruken Ramen is at Lazada One building, a 3-minute walk from Bencoolen MRT. You will see this big ramen outside the stall.
The Food Stuff
We were greeted with a sample of their Artisanal Sparkling Tea! It's so good and refreshing.
Double Happiness Ramen (19.80 SGD)
I ordered this due to my greediness of trying 2 meat parts at the same time 😂. What comes in the bowl are 2 pieces of thick chashu, a portion of slow-cooked pork rib, ajitama, bamboo shoots, fish cakes and noodles.
Let's start it off with the noodles. They are cooked chewy and stay firm, soaking up the flavours of broth well. The noodle type was thin version.
I tell you what. I have never before encountered a broth like this in Singapore. It has the traditional Tonkotsu smoothness, but the Shoyu soy sauce also adds a savoury dimension to the dish. This adds a heartiness and a tone of richness to the soup, making it feel like a warm, savoury embrace in a bowl.
The charshu they were using is the pork belly meat. A balance of meat and fat ratio with the right amount of marinated braised flavours. I would say is an above-average charshu.
The signature pork rib a.k.a torokotsu. It was bursting with the taste of braised flavours and soft till melts in your mouth. No doubt it is the star of this meal.
The egg was relatively standard but I prefer it to be more runny on the yolk though.
Thoughts
It was a heartwarming bowl of ramen. Hanamaruken clearly stands out from their style of ramen compared to others in Singapore. For their unique broth and awesome pork rib, it is definitely worth a visit to try.
Their noodle type is not my favourite version but still cooked well. Eggs can be done better I feel.
You can order their Signature Happiness Ramen (22.80 SGD for regular, 19.80 SGD for junior) for the pork rib version of ramen.
