Egg fried rice has become an internet famous dish after Uncle Roger made viral videos of roasting BBC Food and Jamie Oliver's version of it. New recipes keep churning out online where everyone brings their best version of egg fried rice.
This phenomenal hit also brings to Singapore. A lot of egg fried rice stalls popping out in hawker centres and coffeeshops and some even open a franchise of it. That's how really powerful social media is nowadays.
Although egg fried rice looks easy to cook, it actually tests your cooking skills. Overnight rice, fast cooking, high heat and the right amount of oil determine a good egg fried rice.
Hui Wei Egg Fried Rice is located at a small coffee shop inside Tan Boon Liat Building which is 5 minute's walk from Havelock MRT Station. Aside from fried rice, they do sell noodles too and a few side dishes.

The fried egg is included with an extra cost of 0.80 SGD. The portion is enormous, if you are a small eater sharing with people would be better.
Eggs, rice and spring onions, simple ingredients on the egg fry rice. Rice is fluffy and fried until '粒粒分明', which means each individual grain fry till remains separate and distinct from the others, not clumping each other. Egg fragrance is very strong when taking the first bite and not oily at all for fried rice.
Pork chop is huge too and probably can cover some people's faces. Fresh oils are used and the pork chop is fried very tender but the insufficient seasonings make it quite bland.
Thoughts
No doubt this is a pretty good egg fried rice but there's always room for a touch more perfection. The taste and aroma of the fried rice are unmistakably fragrant but I feel the wok hei (wok's breath) is not pronounced as I expected.
Fried pork chop has a really nice bite texture, just a little more seasoning on it will be good! Not a big issue.
Price is wallet-friendly and the portion is huge, high chance you will get food coma after that. It is worth a trip there and you can eat other dishes there too as they have a wide extension of choice!
